Diabetic Foot Risk Category 3: Demonstrated Pathology
Summary of clinical findings:
- patient diagnosed with diabetes mellitus
- sensation absent
- no clinical signs of lower extremity ischemia
- normal noninvasive vascular exam values
- foot deformity present
- history of either plantar ulceration or Charcot's joint (diabetic neuropathic osteoarthropathy)
Treatment guidelines:
- same as Diabetic Foot Risk Category 2, plus:
- more aggressive shoe accommodations to reduce risk of recurrence of pathology
- more frequent visits may be indicated for monitoring
